Moscow, 24 November 2014 - JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group is glad to present the Samara Hotel Intelligence report.
Samara is the seventh largest city in Russia with a population of around 1.2 million people and one of the leading industrial centres in the Volga region. The key industries are the space, metallurgy and oil production sectors. The international airport, Kurumoch, is about a 45 minute drive away and also serves the car production city of Togliatti. Samara is a host city for the 2018 World Cup.
There are officially 49 hotels in the city with 2,442 rooms. “There are four operating branded hotels, Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Ibis and Hampton by Hilton. The Azimut has closed for full-scale renovation, - David Jenkins, Head of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, commented. - There were 285,000 registered hotel guests in the city in 2013. The bulk of demand is corporate domestic (85%) and sensitive to rate. It is a highly competitive hotel market at all segments, leading to low occupancies and rates for the city. Occupancies sit below 50% in the upper categories.”
It has not been a dynamic city nor a strong hotel market yet it has attracted 4 major brands already. Both the Renaissance and the Holiday Inn fight in the same segment and now the Ibis and Hampton will do the same. Margins are tight between all hotels and with new supply coming things will only become more competitive as there is little to suggest new business dynamics in the city. We again urge caution against a boom in hotel development for the one-off World Cup.” – David Jenkins noted.
