Debenhams to open a flagship store in SEC Avia Park in Moscow

Jones Lang LaSalle brought the anchor tenant to the landmark shopping centre project

Moscow, 15 August 2013 – Debruss company, the Russian partner of the world-renowned British retailer Debenhams, to open a 3-storey department store in the Avia Park shopping centre in Moscow. With the leasing area of 8,400 sq m it will be the flagship Debenhams store in Russia. Jones Lang LaSalle is the leasing agent of this deal, AMMA Development is the SEC developer.

Debenhams in Avia Park will be the retailer’s biggest store in Russia. The unique concept – rolled out on the first 3 floors of the shopping centre – will perfectly match the look and feel of the authentic Debenhams store. The clothes to be displayed in the Moscow flagship Debenhams will include capsule collections – most of the guest designers invited by the retailer stand for the contemporary British fashion. The store will also offer a wide range of makeup and perfumes by Rive Gauche which is the beauty partner of the Debenhams department store in Russia.

Nick Hill, Managing Director of Debruss, said: “We consider only outstanding sites for opening our flagship stores. Debenhams department stores are already present in such remarkable shopping centers as Westfield Shopping Centre in London, Cevahir in Istanbul, Dubai Mall and others. We believe that Avia Park is destined to become the shopping destination in Moscow, the hub for all the big international brands. We are very excited about the opening of our first flagship in Russia in Avia Park shopping centre”.

Anders Binnmyr, President of AMMA Development, commented: “We are pleased to welcome Debenhams, one of the largest global retailers in the Avia Park shopping centre. Representing the most impressive new retail development in Moscow, Avia Park was named ‘a new record setter, which will be the largest mall in the world outside Asia’ by International Herald Tribune. We believe Avia Park is to become the new home of the flagship stores of all famous brands”.

Tatyana Kluchinskaya, National Director, Head of Retail Department, Jones Lang LaSalle, Russia & CIS, added: “This is the second department store of the retailer in Moscow, but the one in Avia Park allows Debenhams to implement the full scale concept introducing to Moscow consumers all its designer lines and the unique interior design. The distinguishing feature of Debenhams store in Avia Park is the separate entrance that allows the visitors to get into the store directly from the street. Such a space solution helps not only to increase the customers’ flow in the anchor tenant’s store but – overall - to attract additional clients to the Avia Park SEC thanks to the brand popularity. Many European and American shopping centers are actively using this strategy.”

Debenhams is one of the largest global retailers comprising more than 220 stores in 30 countries. Apart from the launch of its own stores, the company is actively engaged in franchising. Having opened its first franchise store in Bahrain in 1997, the company has 65 franchise stores in 2012. Debruss, a Russian partner of Debenhams, is planning to open at least 7 department stores in the next five years and to launch an online store in 2014 offering delivery across the entire territory of Russia.

SEC Avia Park with the 225,000 sq m GLA is being constructed in Khodynskoe Pole between two major highways of the capital, namely Leningradsky Prospect and Zvenigorodskoe Highway. In addition to the existing metro stations ‘Dynamo’ and ‘Airport’, ‘Khodynskoe Pole’ station will be opened near the shopping centre, which will provide a significant competitive advantage for the project. The unique trade area of Avia Park is projected to encompass over 6.8 million people.

The shopping centre Avia Park will have four storeys and a two-level parking area. The anchor tenants of the centre will be the hypermarket operator Auchan (22,500 sq m), the home furniture store Hoff (10,000 sq m), the Debenhams department store (10,000 sq m), the electronics store Media Markt (6,300 sq m), the DIY store OBI (15,000 sq m), a sports goods store, an entertainment center, and a multiplex cinema.

The opening of Avia Park is scheduled for Q4 2014.
